Our student staff at Georgia Southern University Housing are provided with perks that benefit their academic growth and wellness as a student. As a student employee, you will never have a work schedule that conflicts with your class timings or exceeds 25 hours per week. This ensures that you’ll have ample time to focus on your primary responsibility at Georgia Southern, your education.

Georgia Southern University Housing provides our student staff with training that is fun, hands-on, and informative, preparing you for any situation that may arise on the job. Our student employees collaborate closely with fellow students and staff, creating a safe and welcoming work environment.

Resident Advisors (RA)

The Resident Advisor position is crucial to the housing department’s function and our residential students’ education. RAs provide our students leadership, resources, student and community development, and safety awareness. Students in this role actively engage in the departments’ educational priorities and serve as peer leaders and educators. RAs receive leadership development, community development, curriculum, and crisis response training. The skills learned in this student position are transferable to future career aspirations. Desk Assistants (DA)

Desk Assitants are responsible for the daily operation of residence hall front desks. These student staff members perform desk tasks, such as lockouts, key audits, and equipment checkouts, at each residence hall front desk. They also provide administrative support to their Resident Director (RD) and Graduate Resident Director (GRD).

Operations Assistants (OA)

Operation Assistants are student staff members responsible for ensuring the continued health and safety of all occupied spaces throughout the academic year by conducting health and safety inspections of residential units. OAs will also assist in inventorying and organizing all University Housing closets to create an accurate and efficient inventory record that can be utilized by University Housing.

Summer Guest Services Staff

Guest Services is the summer operations arm of University Housing. We provide opportunities for other campus offices to utilize our residence halls for research and revenue generation during non鈥恜eak demand periods. Similar to how Resident Advisors and Resident Directors assist students living in the halls throughout the academic year, the primary goal of Guest Services is to provide quality and responsive customer services to the individuals living in our halls over the summer.

Office Assistants

Office Assistants work in the Central Office and Residence Education to assist staff members with answering phones, filing, inter-campus mail delivery, as well as performing office tasks and organization. Office Assistants work during the week during normal business hours. Office Assistants are not required to live on campus, but have the opportunity to develop relationships with the professional staff they work with in their offices.

    Graduate Assistantships

    University Housing employs one of the largest graduate staff teams across the University. University Housing hires up to 17 graduate assistants each academic year. Three types of assistantships are available within University Housing 鈥 Graduate Assistant for Residence Education (Central Grads), Graduate Assistant for Housing Operations, and Graduate Resident Director (GRD). Graduate Assistants for Residence Education work closely with the Residence Education Leadership Team and Central Housing staff to develop department-wide strategies. Graduate Assistants for Housing Operations work closely with Residence Education and Business and Administrative services to assist with hall operations such as desk management and health and safety inspections. The Graduate Resident Director position is a live-in staff member who helps supervise undergraduate student staff, manage a residential complex, and oversee student learning initiatives.

    Summer Internships (Graduate Student)

    University Housing hires a number of graduate students internally and/or through the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I) . Internship sites with University Housing are currently in Residence Education and have included managing a Summer School residence hall, assisting with summer camps and conferences, and serving as leads on specialized projects, such as residential learning strategies and the development of professional and student staff training efforts. These summer internships are typically available on both the Statesboro and Armstrong Campuses.


Professional Staff

Our professional staff members are afforded many opportunities to grow and develop in their professional and personal lives. Whether serving on a committee, presenting a training session, attending conferences, or networking with peers on campus; we encourage our staff members to continue learning through the work they do.

Assistant Directors (AD)

Assistant Directors (AD) are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the area to which they are responsible. Each AD is responsible to create, present, and execute plans specific to their area, oversee area specific support members, and coordinate with other University Housing staff members to ensure that the Department is functioning at best, at each level.

AD positions include:
  • Assistant Director of Residence Education
  • Assistant Director for Residential Learning
  • Assistant Director of Occupancy and Technology
  • Assistant Director of Housing Operations and Guest Services
Resident Directors (RD)

The Resident Director is a full time, Master鈥檚 level professional staff member who lives in the halls and creates a positive and engaging living-learning environment for students. RDs supervise Resident Advisors and Desk Assistants and some supervise Graduate Resident Directors. They also manage the daily operations of the building.

Administrative Support

Administrative Support members are the key to our department鈥檚 success. These staff members have direct contact with our students and parents through e-mail, phone correspondence and visits to our campus. Daily, these staff members are able to put our motto, 鈥淪erving Students First,鈥 into play through these interactions. Additionally, these staff members serve our department through coordination of appointments, supervision of student workers, and other organizational tasks.
